Cornish jail hotel conversion gets planning green light

A £30 million conversion of Bodmin Jail into a 63-bedroom hotel has been given planning consent.
The project is being headed up by London-based Twelve Architects, which submitted an application to transform the jail into a hotel and teaching facility. The project has now been unanimously approved by planners, and is due to be completed by 2019.
The derelict cell blocks on the building's civil and naval wings would be turned into 63 rooms above part of an existing museum, with each bedroom formed from three cells. Interiors will feature colours and textures inspired by the weathered stone of the building.
The project will also include a new 1,200 square metre Dark Walk attraction which will feature a series of themed rooms containing scenic sets, films and projections designed to immerse visitors in the history of the area.
