Rachel McCaffery has over 15 years practical experience in sustainable tourism and holds a Masters degree in International Tourism Policy. She previously worked in commercial and sustainability roles for Airtours, Panorama and Virgin Holidays, before moving into consulting for G Adventures, Martinhal Resorts, Virgin Atlantic, STA Travel, ABTA, Visit Sheffield and The World Cetacean Alliance and others.
She helped establish the eco tourism facility in Kibale National Park, Uganda, and developed visitor education facilities at the marine research station on Lee Stocking Island in The Bahamas. She has also input extensively into climate change adaptation and sustainable tourism development projects including the Caribbean Fish Sanctuaries Partnership and the European Tourism Indicator System.
In 2018, Rachel joined Travel Without Plastic and co-authored ‘Lets Reduce Single-Use’ a plastics reduction guide and toolkit for hotels. She currently advises businesses on plastic use and sustainability and also acts as chair of the Chagos Islands Conservation Trust.
